Turns out I am a Sensible Moderateâ„¢ after all

Normally I despise and distrust political quizzes as misleading trivia, but since this one confirms my existing prejudices about myself I’ll post it anyhow.

My Political Views
I am a center-left moderate social libertarian
Left: 2.64, Libertarian: 2.48

My Foreign Policy Views
Score: -6.04

My Culture War Stance
Score: -7.51

Hat-tip: Dave at Big News; and ScrubOne (who seems to be my polar opposite) is apparently compiling another chart of the NZ blogosphere, so everyone knows which canned propaganda terms correctly apply to whom.

  1. Excellent quiz. I’m pleased to say it fits my pre-conceptions as well.

Almost dead center with a minor touch of social conservatism. Sorry to see you’re such a raving lefty, Lew. But I’d noticed that already… :)

You are a centrist social moderate.
    Right: 0.28, Libertarian: 0.04

On the left side are pacifists and anti-war activists. On the right side are those who want a strong military that intervenes around the world. You scored: -0.61

Where are you in the culture war? On the liberal side, or the conservative side? This scale may apply more to the US than other countries. You scored: 3.06

  2. reid,

I had come prepared to say that, compared to you, anyone is a raving lefty, but that argument won’t hold water now :)

  3. Maybe you raging centrists should go get Peter Dunne’s number :-D

  4. Hurts because it’s true.

The bloggers union should make this a required entry test.

  5. I find these quizes interesting, but I generally don’t think they work properly. I came out: centre-left social libertarian; left 1.44, libertarian 9.04, foreign policy non-interventionist -10, culture cultural liberal -9.19.
Still left libertarian, but I think the economic questions in this are messy. It seems to equate free market support with not being left wing that’s entirely wrong and any cursory reading of history will show that. Questions like: When corporate interests become too powerful, the state should take action to ensure the public interest is served – don’t hold water because corporate interests are largely powerful because of state intervention not in spite of it. Further, phrases like unrestrained capitalism make no sense to me.
And how to do they score a question like this: If an unwed teen becomes pregnant, abortion may be a responsible choice – I think marriage is unimportant for having a child and I’m as lax as can be on abortion.

  6. Maybe you raging centrists should go get Peter Dunne’s number :-D

I would if he was, Stephen.

  7. If he’s not a centrist then i’m Nelson Mandella until proven otherwise.
