Interestingly, the entire bottled water thing comes from bars needing to find a way to make money of patrons doing exstacy. Hence why they charge.
It may be an unnecessary news story, but I’d say it’s reasonably important. Every place serving alcohol should be required to provide free water.
Oh yes, I think the story has clear merit. Only the choice of image is cynical.
L
– Retard question here, but how is it cynical?
Gotta say I only picked what you were on about when I came back here and saw the post subject in the recent comments list.
Francois, either you’re being purposefully obtuse or you’ve lived a very sheltered life.
L
I’m presuming you think it’s overtly sexualised, and perhaps sexist?
It’s not that I think it is, it’s that the image chosen explicitly employs a sexual visual motif to promote a topic which has nothing to do with sex.
Not that it’s a really big deal — just a particularly brazen example.

That image is sexual?
I must be living on a very quiet other planet.
Or you have a very dirty mind.
Given that it is impossible even to tell the sex of the person in the image, I’d say it is asexual, if anything.
Bless. Who says the age of innocence has passed?
L
Lew, I’m sorry that I implied it was a matter of opinion, not an absolute truth.
Hugh, it’s not so much a matter of absolute truth as a pretty obvious and evident part of our recent aesthetic tradition.

I take it that you feel I should be spending more time on Internet porn sites than hitherto.
I really think you are getting into the Margaret Shields seeing penises in vodka bottles a bit here.
:-)
Heh, not so much that as, if you had, you might know what I’m on about. But then again, perhaps not.
The purpose is to imply an explicit shot with the plausible deniability of being able to say that it’s just someone drinking from a bottle of water. Well, yes, it is. But given the aesthetic context in which the image was created and chosen and distributed, a water bottle isn’t always just a water bottle, and a cigar isn’t just a cigar.
Perhaps I need to do an (err) blow-by-blow to illustrate what I mean.
L
Actually you should do that.
I’m honestly not getting what’s dirty about this image at all? Maybe you just have a dirty mind :p?

I don’s see anything wrong with the picture.
