Excellent work Lew. I'm new to the kiwi blogsphere, and history, but I have a question that applies here as it does internationally : Why is this type of irrationality-powered political marketing unique to the right ( an interesting piece about framing and metaphorical thought - used heavily here - is Dr Geoege Lakoff's Moral Politics (book, and talk ). Why is the left (by left I mean the LEFT, not Labour, or Clinton) so reluctant to use such methods?

I have many hunches, but would be interested to hear your take on this.

Lew,

If you don't mind me saying so... I love this kind of work; you're really good at it. I've actually had to re-read it 3 times there is so much meat and spud in it. Thanks.

Well done, Lew. The links you make seem subtle but probably intentional. I have also posted again on the standard.

Since I watch a minimum of Tv, got better things to do with my time, I have yet to see the promos, I watch Tv3 anyway, can't get TV1. What the hell?

Now if you were to comment about the placement of promos on 'non- commercial' broadcasters, Radio and TV, you would have my attention and support. Talk about a storm in a teacup!

"TV7... Demystifying the recession"
I thought the music soundtrack was appropriate. It has replayed backwards guitars. (I hope it doesn't contain any subconscious demonic messages).
This component gave me the impression that although Bill thinks he's moving forward, it's background sound would suggest otherwise.

Well one can conclude that this is not the sort of thing one gets for free during the election campaign period, but is commonplace at other times.

It was probably designed to get our attention and beyond the complaints about political advertising, its hook was to suggest some insider look at Bill English promoting National's economic plan. Leaving people to watch to see if they actually really do have one.
